FREE GUIDEBOOK FOR BONE HUNTING & SPELL CRAFTING

Downtime was rare in 2025 what with working full-time and going to school full-time for my master’s degree. However, on the rare occasions I did encounter downtime, I was working on this guidebook.

Skull & Bone Spells: A Guide to Ethical Bone Hunting & Spell Crafting may sound like it leans more towards the “witch” part of The Sober Witch than it does the “sober” part. Alas, as all of us sober witches know there is not much differentiation between the two. For many of us our sobriety and our witchcraft are reliant upon one another and cannot help but be enhanced by each other. Bone hunting and spell crafting just happens to be one of those activities that meshes so well with both my sobriety and my witchcraft that I had to share it with anyone else who would listen.

I mention the following quote in the guidebook, but the first time I heard someone say it was when I was 21 years old and sitting in my third rehab. We were all haggard looking sitting in a circle in a barren, white-walled room while a counselor conducted a group education class. I was only half-paying attention, not due to rudeness or youth, but due to being on benzodiazepines to help mitigate my alcohol withdrawals. Somehow, she was able to break through my mental cloud though, and even to this day I can still remember her saying, “There is an Indian proverb that says that everyone is a house with four rooms, a physical, a mental, an emotional, and a spiritual. Most of us tend to live in one room most of the time but unless we go into every room every day, even if only to keep it aired, we are not a complete person.”

Bone hunting and crafting is a practice that allows us to enter all four of the rooms that Godden speaks of in one go. While we are out in the woods searching for bones and interacting with our natural environment, we are in the Physical Room. When we are learning how to find or utilize bones in our work, we are in the Mental Room. When we allow our hearts to connect and grieve for the animals we find or when we put our energetic intention into the crafts we make for our loved ones, we occupy the Emotional Room. And, finally, we inhabit the Spiritual Room as we begin to see the life-death-life cycle with intimate and crystal clarity . . . though, I would argue we inhabit it throughout the entire process.

The whole guidebook is about 55 pages long and covers bone hunting, bone cleaning and whitening, and using bones in spell crafting. Even if you’re not into the bone hunting or cleaning aspects, there are still 26 pages of magic containing three rituals, three spells, three bone crafts, and a special bonus craft. Plus, you can absolutely use sticks or rocks in place of bones if you would prefer.

I hope you’ll enjoy this FREE offering. It was definitely a lot of work, but most assuredly a labor of love. If you use any of this content, I’d sure appreciate your giving me a nod of recognition for it. And if, by chance, you love this guidebook so much you want to make a monetary donation, well that would be amazing too and would definitely help me to create more free stuff!

Farewell for now, and until next time . . .
