If you’re struggling to find the WANT to get sober or the WANT to make any change, this simple ritual might assist in creating space to check-in with yourself. It obviously won’t get and keep you sober (no single spell or ritual can do that of course), but I hope that it will allow you to find some focus and clarity.
Supplies:
- Crystal point
- Lapis Lazuli
- Cayenne
- Eyebright
- Nutmeg
- Rosemary
- A tall thin bottle for the herbs
- Yellow/white candle
- Paper and pen
- Plate or tray to sprinkle herbs on
Go ahead and mix the herbs together, calling to mind their correspondences to deepen the intention behind the ritual, and then put them in your long, thin bottle.
The Steps:
- Complete any grounding and protection work such as casting a circle.
- Call in the elements and if your practice includes specific deities call them in at this time. One of my primary deities, and a favorite of mine for any clarity and focus work, is the Egyptian goddess Ma’at.
- Sit in the center of your circle with your supplies.
- Take a moment to smell the ingredients of your herb mix to awaken all your senses.
- Place your plate/tray in front of you with the unlit candle in the middle of it. Have your Lapis Lazuli in between yourself and the plate. Place your quartz point in front of the Lapis Lazuli with the point pointing towards you. In doing this, we’re amplifying the power of the Lapis Lazuli.
- Take your herb mix, and while gently sprinkling it onto the plate and around your candle say the following: “These fiery herbs burn away distraction and thought/That keep me from being the way I ought.”
- Here we light our candles. Focus on the flame as it dances and allow yourself to go deeper into a meditative state (while remaining vigilant of the candle, so as not to forget basic fire safety)
- Let your focus drift down from the candle, to the circle of herbs, to the Lapis Lazuli, and finally to the quartz point.
- When you feel the quartz point is fully charged pick it up and hold it in your hands keeping the point pointed towards you.
Say aloud:
“My NEEDS are simple
Just fire, water, and air.
Earth to protect,
Shelter, and care.
Subtractions are useful
To reveal needed repair.
Clarity and focus,
Lay my mind bare.”
10. Repeat the above as many times as is needed to get your mind to a place of complete receptivity. You are your own teacher here. Be receptive to your own lessons.
11. When you are ready, you can snuff out your candle or let it burn down all the way.
12. Bid farewell to the elements and any deities you may have welcomed to the circle. Close down the circle.
13. As always, it is always recommended to eat or drink something after intense energy work so that you feel firmly grounded.
14. Remove the candle from the plate and take your herbs outside to return them to the earth.
15. Carry your quartz point with you if you are able to, or look to it when you feel your thoughts and decision-making are beginning to get muddled again.
